So Many Conrad Folts

I had decided to do a search on the youngest daughter for Christofel HÜLS' which Maria Catharina Hilts (b. abt 1725) and her husband Conrad Folts. I already had the marriage date of 16 June 1767 from our private website.

I went to Ancestry.com and typed in Conrad Folts born 1719. Under the database titled "Records of the Reformed Dutch Church of Stone Arabia: in the town of Palatine, Mongomery County, N.Y." I saw a pictured of a transcribed marriage index, labeled "Vol 1. Marriages, Oct 16, 1739 to 1795" and the marriage is listed under 1767, d. 16, Juny Conrad Foltz und Maria Catharina Hieltz. I figured this must be the source that was used for the website and I recorded this in my database. (Note: this makes Maria age 42 at the time of Marriage).

Next I found four birth records listing Conrad Foltz as the father but with two different women as the wife. So I first recorded the two births that occurred after the 1767 marriage.

1768                        Parentes                     Infantes                         Susceptores
N. d. 12n April   Conrad Foltz             Anna Margretha            Christian Riegel und
B. d. 17, April     und Maria Cathrin.                                          Anna Margretha
source: Vol 1. Baptisms and Births, page 84

1770
N. d. ** Juny      Conrad Foltz und       Jacob                             Jacob Petrj und
B. d. ** July        Maria Catharina                                              Maria Hils
source: Vol 1. baptisms and births, page 100

Next I recorded the two births that occurred before the 1767 marriage as Conrad being married prior to Maria Catharina Hilts

1760
N. d.                    Conrad Foltz               Conrad                          Peter Foltz
B. d. 7tn Augt.     und Anna Catharina                                         und Elisabeth
source: Vol 1. Baptisms and Births, page 21

1765
N. d. 3n Augt.       Conrad Foltz              Jacobus                       Daniel Petri und
B. d. 7n Augt.        und Anna Catharina                                      Elisabetha

I have noticed that Conrad Foltz is a common name. Therefore, the two Conrad's might be the same or two different indivduals. Also, if they are the same Conrad, why did he name two of his son's Jacob? Did the first one pass away or do one of the children go by another name, such as middle name?

I also have five other Conrad Folts listed in the Hilts and Hiltz database as follows:

Conard Folts son of Jacob Folts (d: 1822) and Catharina Hayes (b. 1779). Conrad married Magdalena Schell. This Marriage appears to be an unrelated branch to the  Hilts/Hiltz family.

Conard P Folts husband of Maria Catharina Hilts (1750-1834) granddaughter of Christofel Hüls. NOTE: This Conrad and this Maria could be the person's in the 1767 marriage record and the two birth records. This Maria would be only 17 when the marriage occurred while the other Maria would be 42 at the time of the marriage.

Conrad Folts father of Anna Margaret Folts (d. 1832) wife of Marcus Hilts (b. abt 1774) great-grandson of Christofel Hüls. Could this Anna Margaret Folts be the same Anna Margretha listed in the 1768 Baptism and Birth record? It would make Anna 64 years old at the time of her death.

Conrad Folts, father of Petri C Folts and grandfather of Bejamin Folts (1807-abt 1870) another unrelated branch to the Hilts/Hiltz Family.

Conrad Folts (1784-1850) married to Susanna Cole (1784-1850) another unrelated branch to the Hilts/Hiltz Family.

Therefore, my conclusions: I am uncomfortable attaching the marriage record of Conrad Foltz and Anna Catharina Hieltz to the daughter of Christofel Hüls and thus uncomfortable attaching the two birth records to the same daughter. At first glance, this marriage and these births have a better fit to the granddaughter of Christofel Hüls through his son Christofel Hilts. At this point, need to see actual records, not just transcribed records to see if any more information can be gleaned from the records, such as parents names of the bride and groom.

If anyone else is researching this branch, please feel free to contact me or list any of your finding in the comment area below.

Thank you,
